Last Chance to Register for Oct. 12 Golf Tournament; Hole-in-One Prizes include $25,000

GolfTime is running out to participate in the 2018 Atlantic Cape Community College Scramble “Fore” Scholarships golf tournament, Friday, Oct. 12, at the Cape May National Golf Club.

Registration begins at 10 a.m., followed by a scramble format, with a shotgun-start at 11:30 a.m.

Player fees, which include a complimentary gift, lunch and awards dinner, are $150 per person or $500 per foursome. Golfers can participate in a variety of skills challenges, including closest-to-the-pin and longest drive contests. Individuals and businesses can also support the event through sponsorship opportunities ranging from $150 to $5,000. Last year’s tournament raised over $40,000 for student aid and Foundation operations. Continue reading

Samantha Carey of Estell Manor Named 2018 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholar

Atlantic Cape Community College student Samantha Carey of Estell Manor is one of 207 Phi Theta Kappa members selected as a 2018 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholar. She will receive a $1,000 scholarship that will go toward her education at Atlantic Cape.

A total of $207,000 is awarded through the Leaders of Promise Scholarship Program. The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation provides $200,000 in funding for the scholarships, with $25,000 set aside for members who are veterans or active members of the U.S. military. The remaining amount is supported by donations to the Phi Theta Kappa Foundation and provides seven Global Leaders of Promise Scholarships, earmarked for international students. Continue reading

‘Cook Your Way to $18K’ Contest Winners Announced; Each Awarded $18,000 Scholarship to Academy of Culinary Arts

The heat was on as nine finalists, five for culinary and four for baking and pastry who had entered their recipes in the first-ever Academy of Culinary Arts’ “Cook Your Way to $18K” Contest, competed on Thursday, Aug. 2, at Atlantic Cape Community College’s Charles D. Worthington Atlantic City Campus.

Ahmad Reed of Marmora and Maria Cotton of Williamstown share a smile moments after they learned they won the “Cook Your Way to $18K” Contest cook-off.

The winner for the culinary competition was Maria Cotton of Williamstown whose dish was a Thai-style Green Curry with Chicken and Shrimp, and the winner for baking and pastry was Ahmad Reed of Marmora who baked an award-winning Rose French Toast.

When asked what winning meant to her, Cotton replied, “In my 50s, I love the fact that I can do what I love to do, not necessarily what I have to do. And I took a stab at this cause I love food. I love to cook it, I love to serve it, I love making people happy with it.” Continue reading

The 2018 Atlantic Cape Community College Scramble “Fore” Scholarships golf tournament is planned for Friday, Oct. 12, at the Cape May National Golf Club in Cape May. Partnering with the Atlantic Cape Foundation, CMNGC will host the tournament to support student scholarships and Foundation operations.

The tournament will follow a scramble format, beginning with a shotgun-start at 11:30 a.m. Player fees, which include a complimentary gift, lunch and awards dinner, are $150 per person and $500 per foursome. Golfers can participate in a variety of skills challenges, including closest-to-the-pin and longest drive contests. Individuals and businesses can also support the event through sponsorship opportunities ranging from $125 to $5,000. For the first time, new students can apply online at atlantic.edu for incoming scholarships for Fall 2018 at Atlantic Cape Community College. The deadline to apply is June 30.

There is currently $106,000 total in scholarships available for incoming new students to help reduce college expenses. To learn about the many scholarships being offered or to apply, visit http://www.atlantic.edu/finaid/scholarships.html.

Atlantic Cape Community College Students Receive Over $250,000 in Scholarships

Recent Academy of Culinary Arts graduate Emely Wapnik of Pleasantville discusses what it means to her to be a scholarship recipient at the Scholarship Recognition Ceremony on May 15. She shared her story of being a Covenant House resident in Atlantic City and her journey of how she has persevered.

Atlantic Cape Community College awarded 250 scholarships totaling $253,983 at its 51st Annual Scholarship Recognition Ceremony on May 15. Together the Atlantic Cape Foundation and the college pledged $688,549 in scholarship support for returning and incoming students. This is the largest pledge in the history of the college.

The event included scholarship recipient and donor presentations, a donor reception and light refreshments. Past President’s Distinguished Alumni Award recipients Raymond Davis, ’92, and Dr. Valerie Travis-Reese, ’82, spoke about their experience as students at Atlantic Cape and the important role that education has played in their professional and personal development. Mr. Don Guardian, former mayor of Atlantic City, also spoke about the importance of scholarship funding and educational attainment.

Time Is Running Out to Buy Tickets for the March 28 ‘Culinary Magic’ Atlantic Cape Community College Restaurant Gala

Gala Cocktail.jpgTime is running out to purchase tickets for South Jersey’s premier food and beverage fundraising event. The 35th annual Atlantic Cape Community College Restaurant Gala will take place on Wednesday, March 28, in the Avalon Ballroom of Harrah’s Waterfront Conference Center in Atlantic City.

The annual event celebrates food by highlighting hors d’oeuvres prepared by students in the Academy of Culinary Arts at Atlantic Cape and showcasing the specialties of 40 of the region’s best restaurants during a progressive dining experience. Continue reading

Gala 50/50 Raffle Tickets Are Still Available for Purchase; Chance to Win up to $15,000 in Prizes

Three lucky winners will share up to $15,000 in the 2018 Atlantic Cape Community College Restaurant Gala 50/50 Raffle. The raffle is sponsored by the Atlantic Cape Community College Foundation, and will provide emergency funds for students with unforeseen financial needs.

Only 300 tickets will be sold at $100 each and are available now just in time for holiday gift giving. Three cash prizes will be awarded, including: $9,000, first prize; $4,500, second prize; and $1,500, third prize. Dollar amounts are based on all 300 tickets being sold. The winning tickets will be drawn at the March 28 Restaurant Gala at Harrah’s Waterfront Conference Center in Atlantic City. Winners do not need to be present to win.

Now in its 35th year, the Restaurant Gala has raised $3 million in student scholarships. This year’s gala theme is “Culinary Magic,” showcasing the extraordinary talent and cooking expertise of the students and alumni of the Academy of Culinary Arts.
