Atlantic Cape Community College Receives Middle States Reaccreditation

The Middle States Commission on Higher Education granted reaccreditation for an eight-year term to Atlantic Cape Community College at its June 21, 2018 session, according to Dr. Barbara Gaba, president of Atlantic Cape.

The Middle States action followed an intensive 18-month self-study process that culminated in a Middle States Commission team visit in early April. The college’s self-study involved the participation of more than 70 faculty and staff members with the goal of completing a detailed analysis of all areas of the college’s operation. During the Middle States Commission team visit, the Board of Trustees, members from the Atlantic Cape Foundation, faculty, students and staff were interviewed. Continue reading

Dr. Peter Mora to Chair Middle States Team

Atlantic Cape Community College President Peter L. Mora accepted an invitation from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education to chair the decennial accreditation evaluation visit to Genesee Community College in New York.

The on-site evaluation visit, which is a key component of the 10-year accreditation process for colleges, is scheduled for April 2017. This is the second time Dr. Mora has been invited by the commission to chair an evaluation team visit. He headed the team for the 10-year evaluation to Hagerstown Community College in Maryland in April 2015.Dr. Peter L. Mora

Dr. Mora is the only president in the 50-year history of Atlantic Cape Community College to have chaired a decennial accreditation team for the MSCHE.

The Middle States Commission on Higher Education is a voluntary, nongovernmental, regional membership association serving higher education institutions in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and other geographic areas in which the commission conducts accrediting activities.

The MSCHE assures students and the public of the educational quality of higher education. The commission’s accreditation process ensures institutional accountability, self-appraisal, improvement and innovation through peer review and the rigorous application of standards within the context of institutional mission.

Middle States Working Group Meets Feb. 19

On Feb. 19, Atlantic Cape kickstarted its first Middle States Working Group Meeting. This meeting included all Steering Committee and working group members responsible for developing the college’s Self-Study, which demonstrates the institution’s compliance on eight accreditation standards.

Join Atlantic Cape Team to ‘Shore Up Middle States’

Augie Nigro, assistant professor of history & government, and Jean McAlister, dean, Resource Development & President/Board of Trustees Operations, are chairing the Middle States Self-Study Team in preparation for Atlantic Cape’s Middle States Accreditation Review in spring 2018. While 2018 seems so far away, there is much planning and writing that goes into the process in preparation for the accreditation visit.

The college’s goal is to be reaccredited by Middle States and has adopted the tagline “Shore Up Middle States.”

The self-study process will take place around the new seven Middle States Standards. Each standard will have two co-chairs, and five to six people per team. There will also be a separate committee for compliance. Continue reading

Dr. Mora First Atlantic Cape President to Lead Middle States Review Team

Dr. Mora is the first Atlantic Cape president to chair a Middle States accreditation team.

The team determined HCC met all 14 standards of excellence identified by the commission for reaccreditation.
