Flu Shot Clinic at Mays Landing Campus Sept. 23

Atlantic County will host a flu shot clinic at the Mays Landing Campus from 10 a.m.-noon, Saturday, Sept. 23, in J Lobby.

Flu shots are available to residents 18 years and older for $15, cash or check only. There is no out-of-pocket fee for the flu shot for Medicare Part B recipients who present their cards.

Walk-ins are welcome, or make an appointment at http://www.atlantic-county.org/flu/. For problems with the reservation system, help is available Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. at (609) 645-7700, ext. 4393 or 4239, or by email at flu@atlantic-county.org.

Time is Running Out to Earn College Credit This Summer at Atlantic Cape

Time is running out to register for summer classes at Atlantic Cape Community College. The final six-week summer session runs July 10-Aug. 17. Whether you’re a current student, recent high school graduate or attending a four-year college and home for the summer, you can earn credits toward your degree this summer.

A variety of credit courses beginning Monday, July 10, include: Introduction to Computers, Public Speaking, U.S. History II, Composition II, Criminal Law, General Chemistry II, Human Anatomy Physiology II, Introduction to Algebra II, Precalculus, General Psychology, Principles of Sociology, Elementary Spanish II and many more. Mays Landing Resident Receives Lindback Teaching Award at Atlantic Cape

Rita Michalenko

Rita Michalenko of Mays Landing, associate professor of art at Atlantic Cape Community College, received the Lindback Distinguished Teaching Excellence Award during the college’s May 18 commencement.

Michalenko, an award-winning artist, joined Atlantic Cape in 1976 as instructor of art and was later promoted to associate professor arts and humanities. Michalenko has made significant contributions to her department and the institution. She maintains the ceramics studio, is active on various college committees, assisted in the planning of the new art gallery and is a longtime adviser to the Student Art Club. She also made contributions to several program reviews for the Studio Arts option of the Liberal Arts Degree. Continue reading

There will be two sessions: noon-4 p.m. and 6-10 p.m., that each cost $30**. Entry fee includes access to the event and brewery samplings.

The South Jersey female-fronted band “Juicy” is set to perform for the afternoon session of the festival and Geri Mingori will take the stage for the evening session. Other highlights include 10 breweries, food and beer pairings by Chef William McGinnity of Nobil Food Services, crafters, a LuLaRoe vendor, a homebrew competition by Eastern Homebrew of Northfield, paintball battles by Backyard Battles Paintball, and much more. Registration Underway for Classes at the Academy of Culinary Arts

If you’ve always loved to cook or are ready to make a career change, it’s time to register for fall 2017 classes at the Academy of Culinary Arts at Atlantic Cape Community College. ACA classes will begin Monday, Aug. 28.

New culinary students should contact Judy DeSalvo at 609-343-5624 or desalvo@atlantic.edu to schedule a registration appointment. Registration hours are weekdays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Returning students can register online using WebAdvisor at www.atlantic.edu/webadvisor.

Careme’s Restaurant is Open for Lunch for Spring Semester; Farm-to-Table Cuisine Featured with Weekly Specials Available

Careme’s, the student-run, gourmet restaurant at Atlantic Cape Community College’s Academy of Culinary Arts, is open for lunch for the spring semester.

The restaurant offers an a la carte lunch menu with items including Minestrone with Basil Pesto, Chef’s Daily Soup, Caesar Salad, Careme’s Chopped Salad, Fresh Pasta of the Day, Grilled London Broil, Pan-Seared Salmon, Chicken Milanese, Grilled Chicken Sandwich and Careme’s Burger. Desserts offered are Roasted Apple Bread Pudding, Flourless Chocolate Tart and Carrot Cake.
