Short-term Culinary Training Programs Prepare Future Chefs in 17 Weeks

Worthington Atlantic City Campus, 1535 Bacharach Blvd. The Culinary Training Program and the Baking and Pastry Training Program both begin Sept. 10.

Learn the skills you need to start a career with confidence as a cook, pastry cook or baker in just 17 weeks, at a lower cost than other local culinary training options. All students earn ServSafe certification and learn interview skills. A job fair at the end of the training is scheduled for quick entry into the field. Continue reading

‘Cook Your Way to $18K’ Contest Winners Announced; Each Awarded $18,000 Scholarship to Academy of Culinary Arts

The heat was on as nine finalists, five for culinary and four for baking and pastry who had entered their recipes in the first-ever Academy of Culinary Arts’ “Cook Your Way to $18K” Contest, competed on Thursday, Aug. 2, at Atlantic Cape Community College’s Charles D. Worthington Atlantic City Campus.

Ahmad Reed of Marmora and Maria Cotton of Williamstown share a smile moments after they learned they won the “Cook Your Way to $18K” Contest cook-off.

The winner for the culinary competition was Maria Cotton of Williamstown whose dish was a Thai-style Green Curry with Chicken and Shrimp, and the winner for baking and pastry was Ahmad Reed of Marmora who baked an award-winning Rose French Toast.

When asked what winning meant to her, Cotton replied, “In my 50s, I love the fact that I can do what I love to do, not necessarily what I have to do. And I took a stab at this cause I love food. I love to cook it, I love to serve it, I love making people happy with it.” Continue reading

Academy of Culinary Arts to Host Open House on May 9

The Academy of Culinary Arts at Atlantic Cape Community College will host an open house from 5:30-7 p.m. on May 9 for prospective students who love to cook and are interested in starting a career in the culinary field. The event will take place in M Building of the May Landing Campus, 5100 Black Horse Pike.

The academy offers two-year degree programs in culinary arts, baking and pastry, and food service management, and specialization programs in hot foods, baking and pastry, food service management and catering.

The academy also offers two one-year certificate programs, Baking and Pastry Certificate I and Culinary Arts Certificate I. These two-semester certificates are designed to provide students with career training for entry-level positions in the baking and pastry or culinary fields. The certificates can also be used as a foundation for completing an associate degree at the Academy of Culinary Arts.  Continue reading

Baking and Pastry Workshops with Chef Marylou D’Angelo Offered at Academy of Culinary Arts Beginning in September

Then join Chef Marylou D’Angelo at the Academy of Culinary Arts at Atlantic Cape Community College for her baking and pastry workshop series, beginning in September, at the Mays Landing Campus, 5100 Black Horse Pike.

Bread Baking I will offer the hands-on experience of baking Vienna Bread, Savory Onion Focaccia and Black Olive Bread, 6-9 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 13. Cost is $65.

Bread Baking II explores how to roll, form and bake traditional Italian baguettes, Semolina loaves and individual Potato Rolls, 6-9 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 27. Cost is $65. Continue reading

The Culinary Training Program provides an overview of basic culinary terminology and skills; pantry production; the use and benefits of kitchen gardens; hot food production and short order cooking; preparation of stocks and sauces; cooking methods of meat, poultry and seafood; and the fundamentals of baking. Spaces Still Available for March 8 Italian Pastries Class

There are still spaces available for the Continuing Education “Italian Pastries” class (BAKE 103) taking place 6-9 p.m., Wednesday, March 8, in Kitchen 2 of the Academy of Culinary Arts.

The course focuses on preparing decadent feather-light amaretto mousse in a tulip cup, St. Joseph’s Day cake and sfingi, another Italian delicacy. Learn some new desserts for upcoming spring holidays.
