Fall Registration Is Underway at the Academy of Culinary Arts; ‘Cook Your Way to $18K’ Contest Deadline Approaching

If you’ve always loved to cook or are ready to make a career change, now is the time to register for fall 2018 classes at the Academy of Culinary Arts at Atlantic Cape Community College, ranked by Best Choice Schools as the No. 1 culinary school in New Jersey. Fall classes begin Aug. 27.

Academy of Culinary Arts Awards Medals To New Chefs at May 14 Ceremony

men and women chefsThe Academy of Culinary Arts awarded culinary medals and certificates to 35 new chefs and baking and pastry professionals prepared with the latest culinary knowledge on Monday, May 14.

Twenty-three graduates honed their skills in the Academy’s Culinary Arts program, and 12 completed the Baking and Pastry program. One short-term specialization certificate in Baking and Pastry was awarded.

The awards ceremony was held in the Walter Edge Theater at the Mays Landing Campus, and honored the graduates with gold, silver or bronze medals or certificates based on their grade point averages and criteria established by the American Culinary Federation. Specialization graduates received certificates of completion. A reception at Careme’s, the on-campus, student-run gourmet restaurant, followed the ceremony. Continue reading

Academy of Culinary Arts to Award Two $18,000 Scholarships to ‘Cook Your Way to $18K’ Contest Winners This Summer

For the first time ever, the Academy of Culinary Arts at Atlantic Cape Community College is hosting a “Cook Your Way to $18K” Contest on Facebook and Instagram where two lucky winners will each be awarded an $18,000 scholarship to attend the academy for a Baking and Pastry or Culinary certification. This amounts to a full-time ACA student’s first year of tuition and fees.

Kelly McClay, dean of the Academy of Culinary Arts, said “We are thrilled to be offering this unique opportunity to people interested in attending the academy where they can simply enter a recipe and photo to potentially win $18,000. It’s exciting, and plays on the competitive nature of culinary and baking students.” The submissions with the most votes received from the general public will determine contest finalists. From there, a cook-off will be held at the college’s Charles D. Worthington Atlantic City Campus on Thursday, Aug. 2. Continue reading

Academy of Culinary Arts Names Iron Student Chefs

Fourteen Academy of Culinary Arts students showed their passion for food and competed in the 14th annual Iron Student Chef Competition at the ACA located at Atlantic Cape Community College’s Mays Landing Campus, April 23.

At 9:30 a.m. sharp, it was time to start the competition coordinated by ACA Chef Educator Vincent Tedeschi of Northfield. The students were organized into three teams. Their mission: to create four dishes, each incorporating a tightly guarded secret ingredient revealed only minutes before the start of cooking. The teams were given 15 minutes to create recipes and 90 minutes to cook.

The secret ingredient to be included in each team’s four dishes, from appetizers to entrée was the potato, with the catch being they had to use five different types including Yukon, Red Bliss, Peruvian Blue, Sweet and Russet. The teams were given the potatoes and a variety of other ingredients and told to produce three plates for each dish, one for display, and the others for judging. Continue reading

Academy of Culinary Arts to Host Open House on May 9

The Academy of Culinary Arts at Atlantic Cape Community College will host an open house from 5:30-7 p.m. on May 9 for prospective students who love to cook and are interested in starting a career in the culinary field. The event will take place in M Building of the May Landing Campus, 5100 Black Horse Pike.

The academy offers two-year degree programs in culinary arts, baking and pastry, and food service management, and specialization programs in hot foods, baking and pastry, food service management and catering.

The academy also offers two one-year certificate programs, Baking and Pastry Certificate I and Culinary Arts Certificate I. These two-semester certificates are designed to provide students with career training for entry-level positions in the baking and pastry or culinary fields. The certificates can also be used as a foundation for completing an associate degree at the Academy of Culinary Arts.  Continue reading

Academy of Culinary Arts Announces Spring Open House Dates

The Academy of Culinary Arts at Atlantic Cape Community College will host several open houses this spring for prospective students who love to cook and are interested in starting a career in the culinary field.

The open houses are planned for 5:30-7 p.m., Wednesday, March 21; 1-3 p.m. at the college-wide open house, Sunday, April 8; and 5:30-7 p.m., Wednesday, May 9, at the Mays Landing Campus, 5100 Black Horse Pike, M Building.

ACA Presents Pasta Dinner Fundraiser Feb. 23

pasta dinner 1The Academy of Culinary Arts is hosting a pasta dinner fundraiser, this Friday, Feb. 23, at Careme’s Restaurant.

The dinners are Pasta with Marinara Sauce for $12, and Pasta with Bolognese Sauce for $15; both include a roll, Caesar salad and dessert.

Reservations for seating can be made between 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Pick-up’s for preorders begin at 4:30 p.m., and must be ordered by Wednesday, Feb. 21.

Cash, check or credit card accepted.

Proceeds will support the Academy of Culinary Arts Overseas Experience.

Tickets are now on sale for South Jersey’s premier food and beverage fundraising event. The 35th annual Atlantic Cape Community College Restaurant Gala will take place on Wednesday, March 28, in the Avalon Ballroom of Harrah’s Waterfront Conference Center in Atlantic City.
