A message from Dr. Gaba regarding Hurricane Disaster Relief

To Our College Community:

Our thoughts and prayers go out to our colleagues, friends and families who have been impacted by hurricanes in both Texas and Florida. Many have suffered heartbreaking losses. It will take quite some time for many communities to rebuild as they are still assessing the horrific devastation. Many families and students are now homeless, and many are unable to continue to go to college at this time.

There are a number of organizations that are helping people through this difficult time such as The American Red Cross. https://www.redcross.org/donate/donation

Additionally, several community colleges have reached out to us for support, such as the Houston Community College (HCC) Foundation and San Jacinto College, located in the Houston area. As with our Superstorm Sandy back in 2012, many students are in need of support.

HCC has established a restricted fund called the HCC Disaster Relief Fund to provide a pass-through grant to HCC for grants, scholarships, and one-time special requests due to financial hardship caused by natural disasters. This will benefit HCC students and employees. www.hccsfoundation.org

San Jacinto College (“San Jac”) has also established a fund to support recovery and relief efforts. http://www.sanjac.edu/harvey-relief.

This is a very difficult time for all people living and working in these devastated communities and I am happy to share this information if you would like to help by making a donation to help those in need.

Dr. Barbara Gaba
