Progress continues on the two-story 20,000-square-foot Student Center Building on the Mays Landing Campus. A groundbreaking ceremony for the new building was held back on Sept. 29, 2016. Progress continued throughout 2016-17 with the installation of Geopiers in December 2016, concrete footings in January 2017, steel columns and beams went up in February 2017, followed by concrete pours of the second and third floors in March 2017. This summer the building has really started to take shape with the installation of the sheet rock, windows and stonework. The expected completion date is late November/early December of 2017. The anticipated grand opening of the new space is projected for spring semester 2018.
The project is managed under Spiezle Architectural Group, Trenton, NJ, and the construction project was awarded to Arthur J. Ogren, Inc., of Vineland. The new two-story facility will house a Student Center on the first floor and the Student Success and Career Planning Center on the second floor. The Student Center will include a Cyber Café, TV lounge, a ping pong room and dedicated spaces for student activities and clubs such as the Student Government Association, Publications, and the Radio Club. The Student Success Center and Career Planning Center on the second floor will offer guidance and resources to assist students in making informed decisions about career choices, including career counseling and access to computers for job searches. The second floor will also contain two multi-purpose seminar rooms for classes, math and writing labs, as well as an Honor’s Lounge.
The new building is funded through GO Bonds and Chapter 12 funds.
