For a limited time, an “advance ticket” special is available until Dec. 31, for those interested in attending South Jersey’s premier food and beverage event, the 34th Atlantic Cape Community College Restaurant Gala. Individual tickets are available for $200 each, a $25 savings, and make great gifts for the foodie on your holiday list. The 34th annual Atlantic Cape Community College Restaurant Gala takes place Thursday, March 23, in the Avalon Ballroom of Harrah’s Waterfront Conference Center.
The annual event showcases food by serving thousands of hors d’oeuvres prepared by students from the Academy of Culinary Arts and featuring the culinary specialties of 40 of the region’s best restaurants at a progressive dining experience.
George Kyrtatas of Medford, co-owner and executive chef of SweetWater Bar & Grill in Cinnaminson and 1999 Academy of Culinary Arts graduate, is the 2017 Culinary Honoree for the Restaurant Gala. Kyrtatas was the youngest person to become Certified Chef de Cuisine from the American Culinary Federation at age 20, has authored cookbooks, and been a guest chef on many national and international television programs including Flavors of America, Food Network’s Cutthroat Kitchen and PBS’ The Cooking Odyssey. He has also been featured in Chef and Plate magazines. Kyrtatas’ greatest joy in the kitchen is taking the traditional dishes from his homeland of Greece and introducing his own unique style on each.
This year’s theme is the “Golden Gala,” celebrating the college’s 50th anniversary of creating educational opportunities for Atlantic and Cape May County residents. The event has raised $3 million since 1984, with proceeds benefiting student scholarships at the Academy of Culinary Arts at Atlantic Cape Community College and Atlantic Cape Foundation operations.
