Atlantic Cape Social Science Professor Receives National Service Award

mcelroyAtlantic Cape Community College Associate Professor of Social Science Donna Marie McElroy, M.S.W., of Egg Harbor Township, will receive the Outstanding Service Award from the New Jersey Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers to recognize outstanding service to her community. Awards will be presented Oct. 27 at the Annual Social Work Gala at Forsgate Country Club in Monroe Township.

This award recognizes the best social work values and accomplishments demonstrated by members’ contributions to the profession of social work within the community. McElroy is being lauded specifically for teaching and serving as the chair of NASW-NJ Atlantic/Cape May/Cumberland Unit, which bestowed the award.

“Helping students achieve their goals and realize their own potential and preparing them for jobs in human services,” McElroy says, is what she finds most rewarding about her work.

McElroy has been an Atlantic Cape full-time faculty member since 2005. She has taught many courses over the years, including Introduction to Social Work and Human Services, Fieldwork in Human Services, General Psychology, Abnormal Psychology and College Skills.

McElroy holds a master’s degree in social work from Temple University and began her career as a clinical social worker. Other positions she has held include being a school social worker and a substance awareness coordinator for a South Jersey high school.

    I am so proud of Donna Marie, she is my Daughter, and she has always done very good work.She excelled in everything she put her mind to.She is caring and thoughtful about everything she does. I am very pleased for her.
