Here’s the Scoop–Oct. 7, 2016

Kristin Jackson, director, Admissions and College Recruitment, was selected for the 2016-2017 Leadership Cape May County program offered through the Cape May County Chamber of Commerce. The group of 16 participants will meet once a month, September through May, with graduation taking place in June. Each monthly class begins with a Leadership Seminar facilitated by Joy Jones, assistant professor of communication, at the Cape May County Campus. The second half of the day allows the group to explore specific areas of importance to Cape May County including personality dynamics, arts, history and culture; tourism, economic development and transportation; government, United States Coast Guard, and civic engagement; public safety, law enforcement and criminal justice; communications, health and human services; education, entrepreneurship and environment.

Andre Richburg, dean, Enrollment Management and College Relations, presented at the 72nd annual National Association for Admission Counseling Conference (NACAC) in Columbus, Ohio, on Sept. 23. Richburg, along with colleagues from New York and Illinois, spoke about Atlantic Cape’s efforts to prepare students for college-level work by implementing early intervention programming for students while they are still in high school. His colleagues addressed transfer pathways and articulation strategies between community colleges and 4-year schools.

Circle K is a student club at Atlantic Cape whose motto is, “Live to serve, love to serve.” It is also the collegiate branch of Kiwanis International, and a member of Circle K International (CKI).  For the past three years, this club has been the only student club at the Cape May County Campus, and this year, with the technology provided by our virtual classrooms, has expanded to include students from the Mays Landing Campus. They will do their first service activity Oct. 7, when they travel to Cape May National Golf Course to volunteer for the 2016 Atlantic Cape Community College Scramble “Fore” Scholarships golf tournament. Donna Marie McElroy, associate professor of social science, is the faculty advisor to the group and shared the club was recently featured Circle K International’s Garden Gazette.

Ginny Lyon, adjunct instructor of marketing, presented, “Retail Speak: Talk the Talk with the Retailer,” at the 2016  Ohio Circulation Conference, Oct. 2-3.
