Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Awareness Activities

‘I Can, We Can’ student activity during the Domestic Violence Awareness event Oct. 4.

The Atlantic County Women’s Center in Linwood brought Domestic Violence Awareness to the Worthington Atlantic City Campus Oct. 4. They provided a host of activities for students and staff, including: “I Can, We Can,” an activity that involved painting on hands and writing messages on them for posting on social media; a project where victims of domestic violence told their stories or memories of those who passed from domestic violence on T-shirts; and a presentation on “Media Literacy” by Percy Figueroa that included a very thought-provoking slide presentation on media messages and the effects it has on social norms within society. The presentation described how the media can promote behaviors of sexual violence, as well as prevention strategies to encourage behaviors that can support a safer society.

Additionally, during the week of Oct. 3-7 WACC participated in Acts of Kindness: an activity where the students, staff and faculty picked a card from boxes to perform a kind act to promote Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Awareness.
