Trustees Approve Personnel Matters at June Meeting

Atlantic Cape Community College’s Board of Trustees approved personnel changes and contracts and purchases when it met June 28 at the Mays Landing Campus.

In Personnel Action, the Board approved the:

–Promotion of Maryann Flemming-McCall to associate professor, English, effective Aug. 29.

–Promotion of Barbara Heard to associate professor, biology, effective Aug. 29.

–Promotion of Lydia Lehr to associate professor, art, effective Aug. 29.

–Promotion of Dr. Geralyn Michelfelder to professor, nursing, effective Aug. 29.

–Promotion of Stephanie Natale-Boianelli to associate professor, developmental English, effective Aug. 29.

–Promotion of Jay Peterson to professor, English, effective Aug. 29.

–Promotion of Karen Zaniewski to associate professor, nursing, effective Aug. 29.

–Transition to institutional funding for Ellen Splaver, counselor II, Educational Opportunity Fund.

–Appointment of Michael Barnes, assistant director of disability support services, effective July 11.

–Printer repairs, Harland Technology Services, Omaha, Nebraska, $19,277.

–Asbestos abatement, Building E, Jupiter Environmental Services, Inc., Pine Brook, $42,960.

–Authorized awarding contract with Borden Perlman for insurance with a premium of $464,789.

–Approved remittance of the assessment for FY2016-17 of $259,444 to New Jersey Community College Insurance Pool for the New Jersey Community College Insurance Pool Worker’s Compensation Fund.

–Approved awarding a contract with T.L. Groseclose Associates for student insurance, accident and catastrophic for sports.

–Approved a one-year legal services contract with Louis J. Greco for a retainer fee of $45,996 and an hourly rate of $134 for litigation and off-campus hearings.

–Approved a renewal of the course fee for fixed wing training service through Ocean Aire, Toms River.

–Approved a student fee schedule for helicopter training services with Helicopter Flight Services, Medford.

–Approved a contract for Sign Language Interpreter Services of Levittown, Pennsylvania.

–Approved a contract for $35,000 to the Association of Community College Trustees for professional services to conduct a presidential search, and authorized funds not to exceed $15,000 for related search expenses.

In Grant Activity, the Board:

–Approved accepting a Collegiate Archery Program travel grant of $500 from Easton Sports Development Foundation and a $1,000 travel grant from USA Archery.

–Approved submitting an application to the New Jersey Council of County Colleges for a grant of $20,000 to support the delivery of college-level courses to high school students before they graduate high school, over the anticipated term of Sept. 1-Dec. 31, 2016.

–Approved submitting an application to and accepting a grant from the New Jersey Department of Education, FY17 Perkins Grant program, for a grant of $479,851, over the term of July 1, 2016-June 30, 2017.

–Approved submitting a budget to and accepting a grant from the State of New Jersey, Office of the Secretary of Higher Education FY17 Educational Opportunity Fund Article IV, for a grant of $183,340, over the term of June 1, 2016-June 30, 2017.

–Approved submitting an application to the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development for the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Title II, Adult Education and Literacy, Consolidated Adult Basic Skills and Integrated English Literacy and Civics Education Grant Programs for a grant of $650,300, with project partners Cape May County Technical School District, Literacy Volunteers Cape Atlantic and Pleasantville Public Schools, over the term of July 1, 2016-June 30, 2017.

FY17 Tuition and Fee Schedule Revised

The board approved per student per course fees for flight training services, revising program fees for experiential flight, $2,269; aeronautical skills, $3,399; instrument pilot, $10,929; airplane flight instructor, $8,285; and commercial pilot, $27,485. Fixed wing training services to be provided by Ocean Aire, Toms River. The board approved per student per course fees for helicopter training, revising program fees for instrument pilot helicopter, $28,452; commercial pilot helicopter, $50,700; flight instruction, $14,647; and helicopter add-on, $35,173. Helicopter training services will be provided by Helicopter Flight Services, Medford.

In Other Business, the Board:

–Approved the May 2016 financial statement.

–Approved and adopted the Strategic Plan for FY2017-2021, effective July 1.

–Acknowledged the FY17 Annual Budget Message.

–Approved Cape May County Campus Named Giving Opportunities.

–Approved the Cape May County Campus Library naming rights to the Mullock Family.

–Approved offering the Preschool to Grade 3 Education Associate in Arts degree, and Child Development and Child Care Associate in Applied Science degree, effective fall 2017. The programs were previously offered as options but are being converted to full degrees to better serve students.

–Approved offering a Fine Arts Studies Associate in Fine Arts degree effective fall 2017. This new degree will provide students with a foundation in visual arts and lead to exhibition opportunities or entry-level employment.

–Recognized Israel Negron II of Hammonton for his service as alumni representative to the Board of Trustees.

In the President’s Report:

–Board Chairperson Maria Torres led a program on behalf of the board to honor the college’s 2016 retirees. Torres thanked the retirees for their combined 272 years of service to the college, including:

–Chef Phil Cragg, Lanoka Harbor, 26 years of service

Patricia Gandy, Mays Landing, 17 years of service

Joyce Grohman, Galloway, 43 years of service

–Chef Michael Huber, Somers Point, 19 years of service

Dennis Huey, Linwood, 43 years of service

Elinor Mattern, Mt. Holly, 23 years of service

Dr. Peter L. Mora, Palermo, 41 years of service

Mary Yoa, Ocean City, 25 years of service

–Trustee Ellen Byrne, Esq., and Eileen Curristine, dean of human resources, public safety and compliance, presented key topics and findings from the Association of Community College Trustees Summit on Safeguarding College Campuses they attended in Portland, Oregon, this month.

Jean McAlister, dean, resource development & president/board of trustees operations and executive director of the Atlantic Cape Foundation, and Andre Richburg, dean of enrollment management and college relations, spoke about the college’s upcoming 50th anniversary. The college will kick off a yearlong celebration with a community day event Sept. 17, at the Mays Landing Campus. Additional events at all three campuses will be held throughout the year.

The next meeting of the Board of Trustees will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, July 26, at the Mays Landing Campus. All are welcome to attend.
