Atlantic Cape Archery Competes in National Championships; Shin Wins Second National Championship

Atlantic Cape Community College’s nationally ranked archery team competed during the U.S. National Outdoor Collegiate Championships, May 21-24, at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

Sungwoo Shin of Galloway, a 4-time archery All-American, defended his ranking, winning the overall individual Male Recurve title. This is his second national championship win. During the semifinal and final matches, he won every round of shooting with perfect 6-0 scores.

In Male Recurve, Phil Holmer of Northfield won his first match and advanced to the round of 16. In Male Compound, Nelson Vega of Buena won his first match and advanced to the round of 16. In Female Compound, Christine Papaycik of Egg Harbor Township and Lorena Koidl of Point Pleasant, each won their first match and advanced to the round of 16.

The team is led by long-time archers Chad Affrunti of Atco and John Repnicki of Galloway, head coach and assistant coach, respectively. Atlantic Cape’s archery team has a history of success, producing more than 40 All-America archers and hosting the U.S. Intercollegiate Archery Championships three times.
