Mayor Don Guardian cheered on the Atlantic Cape Community College’s Buccaneers at the final home game of the season at Surf Stadium, Saturday, April 25.
In a doubleheader, the men’s baseball team fell to Brookdale Community College, 3-2 and 7-1. The Bucs ended the season with a record of 7-14.
Among the team standouts, Gio Contreras of Egg Harbor Township played shortstop and pitched for the Bucs. He batted .300 on the season and had 12 RBIs. As a pitcher, Contreras was 1-2 with a 3.43 ERA. Additionally, Austin Fottrell of Egg Harbor Township pitched and was designated hitter. He led the team in homeruns and batted .333. As a pitcher, Fottrell was 1-3 with a 4.18 ERA.
The Bucs played all home games at Surf Stadium this season. The team plays in the National Junior College Athletic Association Region 19. Rodney Velardi is head coach and Jeff Ball, former Atlantic City Surf assistant general manager, is assistant coach.
