From cyclists to graduations to math boot camps, it’s been an interesting month or so at CMCC.

Tammy DeFranco, director, CMCC student services and campus management, spoke during the annual GED graduation day May 29 at the Cape May County Technical School District. Each May, the Technical School District honors Cape May County residents who have earned the GED credential during the year. The graduates don cap and gown with proud family and friends looking on. Tammy’s remarks focused on opportunities, possibilities and achieving one’s goals. Recruiter Glenda Stogel attended as well, with an information-packed table of career and degree options for the new grads.

The ALS Association annual bike-a-thon, which runs from Camden County College to Morey’s Pier in Wildwood, cruised through CMCC June 14. The rest stop was set up in the ample shade provided by the solar arrays, and on such a cloudless day, the shade was much appreciated by the hundreds of cyclists who participated. Thanks to Kay Pandit, conference and meeting services, for handling the arrangements.

Cyclists and event organizers alike appreciated the shade offered by CMCC’s solar arrays.

Two cohorts of local residents age 55+ finished their 10-week workforce training program at CMCC in mid-June. Instructors Jane Ann Hart and Mary Beth Zenyuk were treated to covered dish luncheons in the dining room after the final class. Leaners received instruction in Word, Internet, resume building, job searching, interviewing and financial literacy.

Math boot camp for students who placed into Math 073 and Math 074 finished up June 26 at CMCC.

The Workforce Investment Board is using CMCC as the site for its mental health training event June 30. We’re always happy to lend a classroom for a good cause.

Window repairs, heavy cleaning and floor stripping/waxing continue through the summer at CMCC. The third floor classroom wing hallway was recently waxed, and it looks spectacular!

Retiree Tom Clark, security, and his wife, Dianna, stopped at CMCC this summer to say hello. The Clarks live in South Carolina, but they were in the area for some family events and they took the opportunity to catch up on news with CMCCers. Tom and Dianna were spotted on television at a Phillies game in Miami earlier this season. They are clearly enjoying retirement!

Have a worry-free weekend!
